Help Build a Community
Volunteer
with our Community and Soccer Development Program
in Sierra Leone.
As a volunteer for this Community and Soccer Development
Program, you will be involved in various aspects
of work, including orphanage assistance, home-based
care, HIV/AIDS education and soccer coaching.
Sierra Leone has spent the last Five years in
reconstructing its country in the aftermath of
a 10-year civil war. Impoverished and scarred
from warfare, the village people of Waterloo,
Hasting and Lunsar have endured fatal floods and
demolishing cyclones. Our program works to rebuild
this community both figuratively and literally—by
helping the people strengthen their skills and
self-esteem while repairing damage caused by the
war.
As a volunteer you will spend
your time both in Freetown and seven miles outside
the city in the bush land. In the bush, people
live in huts and many children are orphans who
can’t afford to attend school. There you
will facilitate craft workshops, participate in
HIV/AIDS awareness discussions and help teach
English when necessary. In Waterloo, you can help
rebuild a local orphanage, visit villagers who
are too sick to leave their homes and coach underprivileged
children in soccer.
As a volunteer you
can:
Facilitate craft workshops
and cultural days
Visit sick villagers at their homes
Orchestrate HIV/AIDS prevention discussions
Teach soccer skills to local children
Work to change the negative perception of disadvantaged
people in local communities
